Public Opinion on Genetic Engineering and Gene Manipulation

Image
Introduction: Genetic engineering is also called genetic modification and genetic manipulation. It is the modification and insertion of an organism gene by using technology. It is a group of technologies that are used to change genetic makeup of cells, including the transfer of genes within and across species boundaries to produce improved or novel organism. New DNA is obtained by either isolating or copying the genetic material of interest using recombinant DNA technology or by artificially synthesizing the DNA. Genetic engineering has been applied in numerous fields including research, medicine, industrial biotechnology and agriculture. In research GMO’s are used to study gene function and expression through loss of function, gain of function, tracking and expression experiments. By knocking out genes responsible for certain conditions it is possible to create animal model organisms of human diseases. As well as producing hormones, vaccines and other drugs, genetic engineering h...

Industrial revolution through Genetic Engineering

Genetic engineering: Genetic engineering is also called gene manipulation, in this technique we can alter the genetic material of an organism with the desired traits, this technique may also used to treat inherited disorders in newborn babies. Not only this , this technology is very useful for the production of medicines on a large scale.   Basic tool: One of the basic tools of genetic engineering is Recombinant DNA technology. In this technique , we isolate the piece of DNA ,splice and insert the genetic material. Examples:  Human growth hormone Insulin   Genetically modified products: Genetically modified products which are currently available in the market are: Vaccines Antivenoms Bacteria derived toxins Immunoglobulins Monoclonal antibodies Allergens Blood products and clotting factors Hormones such as insulin, growth hormone Enzymes Heparins Method of Genetic Engineering: In this technology, we first isolate a DNA fragment with the help of...
