This survey was conducted by Miss Dania Fatima on the topic "Forced COVID-19 vaccination and It's obligations, consequences and repercussions". Miss dania was facilitated by her team leads, Aymen Arif ( Program Manager at SBA), Hira Jamil ( Executive member at SBA) and Khalid Baloch (Founder,CEO & Trainer at SBA).
INTRODUCTION
The latest threat to global health is the ongoing outbreak of the respiratory disease that was recently given the name Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19). Covid-19 was recognized in December 2019. It was rapidly shown to be caused by a novel coronavirus that is structurally related to the virus that causes severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS)[1]
To meet the urgent need for a vaccine, a new pandemic vaccine development paradigm was proposed that compressed the development timeline from 10–15 years to 1–2 years [2]. However, there remains a lack of clarity as to what may constitute a safe and immunologically effective COVID-19 vaccine strategy, how to define successful end points in vaccine efficacy testing and what to expect from the global vaccine effort over the next few years[3].
After the vaccine was developed and was ready to be administered, the first mass vaccine administering drive took place in December 2020[4]. During this period the vaccines were being distributed among different countries, Pakistan got its first vaccine stock in end of January 2021 and the first batch of vaccines received were inoculated to front line health care workers [5]. After all the hospital staff and medical students were inoculated the public were requested to get their vaccines starting with the old aged first in March 2021[6]. During the phase of vaccine inoculation, the age limit was increased and by 10 June 2020 all above 18 years were eligible to get the COVID 19 vaccine [7].
Now that everyone above 18 years old are allowed and approved to get the vaccine, the government started imposing different kind of restrictions for the non-vaccinated individuals as the rate of COVID 19 vaccine administration were very low and the general public were not ready to get the vaccine. Due to the imposed restrictions like no salary will be given to the un-vaccinated, created a fear among the population and some people were forced to get the vaccine.
This survey-based research was designed to observe and conclude if the population was forced to get the vaccine due to the government impositions, if getting the vaccination was against their will, and those who are not vaccinated are what they facing any problems due to the implications . It also covers some public views on the news/myths regarding the COVID- 19 vaccine which were being circulated through the internet.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
1- To study percentage of the sample population on basis of whether vaccinated for COVID 19 or not vaccinated.
2- To investigate the purpose of getting vaccinated and if the act was done due to enforcement/ government restrictions
3- To see if the sample population were scared during the process of vaccination and if the act was performed unwillingly
4- What is stopping the unvaccinated sample population from getting the COVID 19 vaccine, and if they would prefer to get the vaccine if the government restrictions are increased.
5- To get public aspects on some of the spam or false statement circulating on social media platforms regarding the vaccination and also the views on the way government is forcing people to get the vaccines and the cause of enforcement.
METHODOLOGY
The methodology used for this research was a survey-based method. For the purpose of collecting data the questionnaire was designed on google forms which consisted of 14 elements, designed with respect to the data needed to conclude the aims and objectives of this research. The questionnaire was divided into 4 sections, the first section had 4 questions and covered the demographic data collected from the participants and a question whether the participants is vaccinated or not on basis of which he/she was taken to the next section, the second portion was for those who were vaccinated for COVID 19 and had respective questions, the third portion was for the unvaccinated population and had respective questions. The last and fourth portion had some statement regarding the vaccine to collect the public’s stance on it.
The sampling method used was simple random sampling. After the questionnaire was approved by the SBA team it was shared on different SBA social platforms and circulated among social circles. After 1 week of collecting responses the observations and conclusions were made on basis of the data collected.
OBSERVATIONS
After collecting data, the following factors were observed, 70 participants took part in the survey out of which 65 participants were vaccinated with 1st dose or fully vaccinated, while 5 participants were un-vaccinated. The participants was a mix of both genders which consisted of 13% males and 87% females. The age range of the participants was 10 years till above 50 years old.
The data gathered from the above described participants was observed and from which the following results were made to fulfill the aims and objectives of the research.
RESULTS
GAINED FROM VACCINATED POPULATION
Firstly, we will be analysing the results of the vaccinated participants which were majority in number i.e. 65 participants
To evaluate how many participants out of the vaccinated population were forced to get the vaccine due to peer pressure the question was added which showed that 69.2% got vaccinated on their own will, while 23.1% were forced to get the vaccine and 7.7% were not sure if they were forced or not !
as shown in the figure below
It was a very important task to gather the data for why people got the vaccine, what was the major cause of going out to get two doses of COVID 19 vaccine, for this question following data was observed.
To observe whether there was a scared factor when, after or before getting the vaccine, a question was added which showed following results.
GAINED FROM UNVACCINATED POPULATION
The unvaccinated population was comparatively very less to the vaccinated population which consisted of 6% of the entire sample population. the first question was what was stopping them from getting the vaccine.
It was asked if they will get the vaccine if the government restrictions are increased.
As the government has applied many restrictions on non vaccinated population it was asked if they are facing any kind of issues like as in institutes, at work, in getting education due to the strict restriction on which 3 participants said yes they were having issues socially and publicly, while 1 said he wasn’t having any issues and one was not sure.
We had added some questions to get public views on the vaccine and the methods of forcefully administering the vaccine. The first question was if the vaccine has something else alongside the antibiotics, following was the results;
Our second question referred to the reason of enforcement of the vaccine by the government on the population which had the below mentioned results.
We were seeking public reviews on whether the restrictions and enforcement impaled by the government is right or wrong in their point of view. On which the response was that, 38.6% thought, Yes, everyone should be forced to get the vaccine and the government restrictions are legal if not done so people will never get the vaccines due to doubtfulness. While 31.4% thought, No, it should depend on the person if he wants to get the vaccine or not, he should not be forced through the restrictions and 30 % thought the restrictions might be okay.
CONCLUSIONS
The results from the survey show that most of the population is vaccinated and those who are not vaccinated are willing to get vaccinated very soon. The survey also shows that 70% of the vaccinated population got the vaccine on their own will and rest were forced to get the vaccine. 65% of the population weren’t scared of the whole vaccine process. The results gained from this survey basically concludes that moderate amount of population got the vaccine and the decision of vaccine was on their own will and they weren’t forced to get the vaccines.
